Big ideas often start with students — and sometimes they grow into something much bigger.
On Test-a-Palooza Day, while students in grades 9–11 focused on state and district assessments, seniors across Rapid City Area Schools spent the day giving back to their community through a districtwide Day of Service.
The idea began with seniors at Rapid City Central High School, who saw an opportunity to make meaningful use of the day while underclassmen were testing. Their proposal quickly gained support from student leaders and staff at Stevens High School, and before long the concept expanded into a districtwide effort for seniors across Rapid City Area Schools.
Because seniors do not participate in the testing schedule, they used the day to volunteer throughout the Rapid City community, partnering with local organizations and projects to make a positive impact.
The Day of Service highlighted student leadership, collaboration, and a strong commitment to community — values that Rapid City Area Schools strives to cultivate in every graduate.
“It’s a great reminder that even a single student idea can grow into something that benefits an entire community,” district leaders said.
Rapid City Area Schools is proud of its seniors for stepping up to lead through service and grateful to the many community partners who helped make the day possible.
