Students entering Rapid City Area Schools for the first time in grades 1–12 must complete the district’s enrollment process before attending school. Please use the Kindergarten Registration Page to register kindergarten students! (LINK)

Who is considered a new student?

A new student is one who:

• Has never attended Rapid City Area Schools or are returning to Rapid City Area Schools

Required enrollment documents

Families will be required to provide the following documents to complete enrollment:

• State-certified birth certificate (required by South Dakota law)

• Immunization records

• Proof of residence

• Social Security number (if available)

These documents will be reviewed and scanned into the student’s file.

Immunization requirements

• Students enrolling from outside the United States must have all age-appropriate immunizations completed within 30 days of starting school at RCAS.

• South Dakota law requires 6th-grade students to have:

  • One dose of Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) on or after the 11th birthday

  • One dose of MCV4 (Meningococcal) vaccine

American Indian Education Services

New American Indian students who wish to receive Title VI Indian Education services must complete a 506 Certification Form at the beginning of the school year.

• Login credentials will appear immediately on the screen

• You may add an email address after logging in

• Entering an email address during the request may delay receiving your credentials

• Log in using your credentials

• Complete the online registration for your student

Required Documents

To finish registration, the following documents must be provided to the school:

• Birth Certificate (required by South Dakota law)

• Immunization Record

• Social Security Card

• Proof of Residency

High School Registration

Once the high school receives your student’s records, the Registrar’s Office will contact you to schedule an appointment to complete the registration process.

Transportation

Students in grades K–8 who live more than 2.5 miles from their assigned school or in designated areas may qualify for bus service.
