According to the U.S. Department of Education - Office of Indian Education, "Title VI, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) supports a comprehensive approach to educational improvement and reform for Indian students, helping ensure they benefit from national education reforms and receive every opportunity to achieve to high standards. The programs promote the efforts of schools, local educational agencies, and Indian tribes and organizations to meet the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of their American Indian and Alaska Native students."
Who Are We?
Title VI Indian Education is a dedicated team of educators, administrators, parents, and community advocates serving Rapid City Area Schools. Our office includes Lakota Language teachers, Oceti Sakowin Essential Understandings instructors and a Student Success Facilitator. Together, we support curriculum development, professional training, culturally responsive teaching, and social-emotional learning rooted in culture.
We also provide four high school Graduation Success Coaches who work directly with students to promote academic achievement and graduation readiness. By leveraging community resources and building positive relationships, we ensure that Native students and families are supported and empowered throughout their educational journey.
We also work closely with a Parent Advisory Committee (PAC), who serves as an advisory committee for Title VI Indian Education. The PAC Board meet on a regular monthly basis and provide some family engagement activities throughout the school year.
