Community Planning Process

Over the past year, the district has taken a thoughtful, transparent, and community-driven approach to planning for the future of our schools. This work has included:

Comprehensive Facilities Planning (Completed May 2025)

  • Conducted a districtwide Facilities Master Plan evaluating every school

  • Assessed building conditions, safety, capacity, and long-term needs

  • Identified the highest-priority improvements to maintain, modernize, and extend the life of existing facilities

Community Input & Voter Feedback

  • Completed a community perception survey of registered voters across the Rapid City area

  • Identified clear community priorities, including:

    • Student and staff safety

    • Building conditions and maintenance

    • Responsible, sustainable growth

  • Ensured the proposed plan directly reflects what voters said matters most

Focus on Strong, Balanced School Communities

  • Prioritized balanced enrollment across schools

  • Maintained a focus on preserving strong school identities and communities

  • Designed solutions that support both current students and future growth
