  We are now accepting registrations for the 2008 - 2009 school year.
These forms are located on the Registration Page in two formats: Microsoft Word (doc) and Acrobat Reader (pdf).

To initiate the registration process, your home school must register you through the South Dakota Virtual High School website. If you would like to open enroll with The Virtual Campus, please contact The Virtual Campus. 605-721-7736.

Tuition is $310 per half credit for all students.

You do not have to be a teacher in the Rapid City School District, but you must have a South Dakota Teaching Certificate.

You must fill out the appropriate forms located at the Human Resource Center.

During the school year, we offer Anytime Enrollments, usually on the first Monday of each month.

Students have 12 weeks (84 days) for half credit courses and 24 weeks (168 days) to complete their course of study.

All students must successfully complete the online Student Orientation before gaining access to courses.

Online Student Orientation Course is an online course designed to give the inexperienced online student a chance to see what online learning is about before being enrolled in our courses. There is no charge to the Student Orientation Course. The Student Orientation Course provides novice online students confidence in locating and using the tools needed for our courses. Students have 7 days to complete the orientation. This orientation also affords the veteran online student the confidence needed to successfully complete our courses. The Student Orientation is facilitated by our highly trained instructors.

Students who do not complete the Student Orientation Course will not gain access to their course.

Returning students to The Virtual Campus do not have to retake the Student Orientation Course.


Refunds will be issued if a student drops before entering a course, excluding the Student Orientation.

Students may withdraw without penalty from a course within the first two weeks of starting the course, but no money will be refunded.

Withdrawing from a course after two weeks will mean a withdrawal with failure and no refund of money.


All students must have or will be given a state email account for use in their courses with us.

We will not accept any other email accounts for our online campus.


The Rapid City Public Library allows all of our students access to the online resources they offer.

An excellent resource is Live Homework Help. Students must contact the Rapid City Public Library for this information.

Online students can apply for an online library card.


Students are greatly encouraged to have Microsoft Word in order to complete their assignments, or should know how to export from a word processor to a Microsoft Word format (doc) , a pdf, or a rtf. All word processing documents turned in must be in Microsoft Word format. Our online teachers cannot open any other formats. Most word processors, today, can save data in Microsoft Word format. If you do not know how this is done, consult your program's Help section to learn how to do this procedure.

We do have a software purchasing program that enables our students to purchase MS Office at a very reduced price. Learn about our Software for Students program.


At The Virtual Campus, you can earn high school credits through the most flexible and accessible educational system around. The Virtual Campus is an online high school that offers students an alternative to traditional scheduling and instructional strategies in an asynchronous setting (Anywhere, Anytime, 24 / 7).

All courses offered are accredited and aligned to Rapid City Area School District Standards, State Standards, and National Standards.

All courses are taught by highly qualified South Dakota certified teachers who have been trained to teach in an online setting.
