Greetings, This will be the final newsletter for the year. Please mark the following dates on your calendars:
Operation Nest Egg, our student work program, has started and is being funded by the following attorneys in Rapid City. They have donated a total of $5,660 in two weeks.
Thank you for their generosity to get this awesome program going. A special thank you to John Murphy Law Office for helping us with this fundraiser. Please ask your child about the program today!! Thank you to the following people and businesses for donating to the Eagle Cash store: Thank you to everyone who helped with our magazine fundraiser. I will keep you posted when we receive a total amount raised. Thank you to those of you using your Target charge card. We received a check for $74.86 which will help pay for our next Honor Roll celebration. Just a heads up on some of our students who are sharing contact lenses. This is very dangerous and can cause serious infections of the eye. We will continue to contact parents when we see this happening. www.myfuturemydecision.com – Using streamline videos, radio spots and information resources, this site features testimonials from former dropouts and highlights the benefits of completing a high school diploma. Make sure you get your daughters into the doctor to receive their series of Human Papillomavirus vaccine. This is a vaccine that can guard your daughters against diseases caused by HPV which causes 70% of cervical cancer cases and 90% of genital warts cases. This is for women between 9-26 years of age. The state is helping defray the cost of the vaccine. Contact your doctor soon, before this opportunity passes. Thank you to Independent Insurance Agents of Rapid City who donated a total of $16,500 to our Food Backpack program. We now have 10 schools participating with over 800 students being fed every weekend. We have 150 spots here at North. If you would like your child to receive a backpack of food for the weekend, please call Vanessa at North. Thank you to the Altrusa Club who donated $1,000 to our Food Backpack program. Our Student Gang Task Force has designed a t-shirt to wear for all members in black and lime green. Officer Dan Rude will be doing a gang presentation to our group on May 13. Parents are invited. This will be from 3:10-4:30 in the library. Once we have some nice weather, students will also be painting over gang graffiti in our neighborhood. If you would like some graffiti painted over, please call the office and give your address and what you would like painted. We will be helping the police department with this. Please make sure you are monitoring your children’s Bebo, MySpace and Face Book. We are finding several fights that have been initiated and posted on these sites by some of our students. We are working with the Sheriff’s Office and making arrests for this illegal behavior. This is a growing problem in our nation, and we, as parents, have the right to monitor these sites. We need your help!! Thank you for a good year at North Middle School. We couldn’t have done it without your support of your children’s education. Respectfully submitted,
